Orlando Videos

Too lazy to blog....

View July '08 on powmartin's travel map.

Hi all,

Orlando was exhausting! We were up early each day to get to the parks and by mid-day we basically got all the rides we want done (super efficient!). I guess thinking we could blog each day was a bit ambitious. Anyway, these are a collection of videos we made along the way...

Day 1 - Thursday
Intro - it's the time to be kids...

Driving to Epcot

Finally at Epcot - Spaceship Earth!

Apparently, this is our future....

Day 2 - Magic Kingdom

Big Thunder Mountain was too boring so we decided to make a video...

Zurg took over Space Command, so we got stuck...

Here we are waiting for the parade and fireworks at Magic Kingdom

Day 3 - Medieval Times!

After Universal Studios, we went to Medieval Times - AWESOME!!

New Orleans and Orlando!

-17 °C

Sorry Pow and I haven't updated for a while. For one thing, internet isn't as available here, since there's no free wifi. The other reason is that we've just been so busy visiting all the parks. On a normal day, we'd leave the hotel by around 7:30am, and we'd be home by around 10-11pm. So yes, we're making the most of our time here! We started our tour around the parks last Thursday.

Our last day in New Orleans was spent at the local aquarium. Besides all the usual aquarium attractions, we saw NICOLAS CAGE! He was there with his wife and kid. And as soon as people started noticing him, he kinda sped up and then escaped. Pow got some paparazzi shots though! :) Anyway, we had an early flight the next day, so we didn't go out too late that night. Though we nevertheless slept late just because of using the internet :P

We arrived in Orlando around 9:30am the next. From the airport, we proceeded straight to the hotel, where we were told that our room would only be available by 4pm, so we just left our bags with security and proceeded to Epcot.

Friday, we did the Magic Kingdom. It was REALLY hot in the morning, then it rained during the afternoon. There was very little new in the Magic Kingdom, so we decided to park hop over to the Disney Hollywood Studios where we got to ride the Tower of Terror, the Aerosmith coaster and the Star Tours ride.

Saturday was time for Universal Studios. They actually have done a better job at keeping things fresh by replacing old rides with totally new ones. The newest ride was a Simpsons motion simulator ride which replaced the old Back to the Future. Later that day, we had some strength left to head on over to Islands of Adventure and ride the Dueling Dragons. We'll be back on Tuesday though. After that, we had dinner at Medieval Times! It was a real great time with a good show and good food!

We went to Animal Kingdom Today. Pow and I were quite curious since we've never been there before. It had some nice rides like the Everest coaster, a rapids ride, a Dinosaur motion keep ride (like Indy in Disneyland LA) and of course the Safari adventure which takes you across the Disney preserve. We ended early and went to Hollywood studios again, but all of the rides we wanted to get on were really full, so we decided to just come home early and get some rest. (also the reason we're able to blog now). Two more days and two (or more) parks to visit! Hollywood studios again tom, then islands of adventure on Tuesday!

I'll try to post some pics and some videos!

New Orleans Day 2

If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoin'

Day 2 in New Orleans brought us to the Garden District where we took a quick tour of the cemetery and the houses...

We started by taking the historic St. Charles street car towards the west where we were dropped off in the Garden District. Actually, we were so distracted by the ride that we overshot just a bit and ended up walking back towards 4th Street. Since we were early, we went to Magazine St. and had lunch (gumbo and creole tomato salad). We met up with our tour guide Bob (you can say it backwards, but he'll now if you do - boB!) at the Garden District Book Shop. He warned us that the tour would be full of bad jokes :) The corner where we started is where Brad Pitt..err..Louis from Interview with the vampire said "And then on Prytania Street, only blocks from the Lafayette cemetery I caught the scent of death and it wasn't coming from the graves..."

Bob explained why they had above ground tombs in New Orleans...it's because er...well, you can read all about it here. It was kind of morbid to take pictures there so we have no pictures to post online :)

Afterwards we went around the garden district to look at all the houses. First we saw a chapel that was owned by Anne Rice and is now currently owned by Nicholas Cage :) Then we went to the Ikea house (aka Swedish Honorary Consul's house) and a couple of other houses which showed different types of architecture- Greek Revival (symmetry, balance and the use of columns), Italianate (the iron lace balconies) and a mix of both. We also saw another of Anne Rice's house - where she wrote the Witching Hour and used the house as the setting for the novel.

We ended the tour near John Goodman's house (our guide said he was only 39 - I checked on imdb and he was totally wrong!). Afterwards, we dined at the the Court of 2 Sisters - catfish slathered in mayo and the best part - Bananas Foster for dessert! Then we ended the night with drinks and a quick stroll down Bourbon Street.

Ghosts, Snakes, and Ghosts-Snakes

My first blog entry - martin

Ok this is my first blog entry... cause basically im much lazier than Pow hehe.

So we're here taking it easy, in The Big Easy. First of all, it's hot! Kinda like being back home, but its not as humid, so that's good.

Pow was asking me what I wanted to do. Take a ghost hunting tour? Take a trip in the swamps? I told her, "What? Are you crazy? I'm afraid of ghosts! And I'm afraid of snakes! OMG, what if there are ghosts snakes? NOOOOOOO!"

P.S. I forgot the cable so I can't up load my pics yet :P
